Lecture programme

12:30 -Short and practical First Aid clinic for offshore sailors and world cruisers.

Passionate sailor and doctor Rob Sijbers is giving a practical clinic on “First Aid at Sea,” tailored for long-distance sailors who want to be well-prepared for their journeys. With a hands-on approach, Rob explains essential skills such as suturing and catheterizing, helping you understand what to do in case of major injuries and accidents at sea.

Out in the open ocean, you’re often on your own, and while accidents are rare, they can have serious consequences. This short clinic ensures you’re better prepared for emergencies. In addition to his lecture, Rob will have an informative stand at the shipyard, featuring his special first aid kit for sailors and details on his first aid courses. Read more about Medical Sailing.

16:00 – The Development of Seagoing Sailing Yachts

Jelle Hutting and Ard Meijer from Van Oossanen Naval Architects will take you through the process of developing ocean-going sailing yachts. Ard Meijer will explain the software used to design these yachts and optimize sailing performance, along with the steps involved in the entire process. The development of the Hutting 46 will be used as a case study.
Jelle Hutting will then discuss the construction and material aspects:

  • Why choose aluminum and what should you consider?
  • What insulation materials are safe to use?
  • What is an ideal and safe layout, and why?
  • How do you develop smart storage spaces?
  • …And much more!

In short, discover what functionalities make a sailboat seaworthy and ready to explore the world’s oceans—from design to interior and everything up to the top of the mast.
